What is Tongli?
Tongli (通里, HT5) is an acupoint belonging to the Heart (Shaoyin) meridian of the Hand, with exceptional efficacy in regulating heart function and stabilizing the mind. The name ‘Tongli’ means that the meridians are open and qi and blood flow smoothly, and it has been widely used to treat various heart-related symptoms.
How to Find the Precise Location
Step 1: Extend your wrist with the inner side facing upward, and locate the wrist crease (wrist transverse crease).
Step 2: Measure 1 cun (approximately 1.5 cm, about one finger joint) above the wrist crease.
Step 3: Located between the two tendons in the center of the wrist (flexor carpi ulnaris and flexor carpi radialis tendons), slightly toward the ulnar side (pinky finger side).
Step 4: If you feel slight pain or soreness when pressing with your finger, you’ve found the correct location.
Acupressure Method
Preparation: Sit in a comfortable position and relax your wrist.
Step 1: Using the opposite thumb, locate the Tongli point and press lightly.
Step 2: Press firmly for 3-5 seconds at an intensity level that produces mild discomfort (7-8 out of 10).
Step 3: Slowly release your finger and rest for 5 seconds.
Step 4: Repeat this motion 5-10 times.

When the Heart Feels Uncomfortable: Apply pressure immediately when experiencing palpitations or chest tightness. When Stressed: Stimulate for a few minutes when feeling anxious or on edge. Every Morning: It’s also beneficial to apply pressure before starting your day to maintain good health.
Precautions
Maintain Appropriate Pressure: Avoid pressing too hard to prevent injury—maintain a pressure level that produces mild discomfort. Pregnant Women: During pregnancy, avoid strong stimulation and apply light pressure instead. Avoid After Meals: Do not apply pressure immediately after eating—wait at least 30 minutes. When Wounds Are Present: Avoid if there are cuts, inflammation, or skin conditions on the wrist. Medical Consultation: If you have heart disease or persistent symptoms, consult a healthcare professional. While Taking Medications: If taking blood thinners or other medications, consult your doctor beforehand.
